Drug Trafficking to Spanish Prison via Secretly Manufactured Drones

The Green Island Prison in Cádiz, Spain, has once again come into the spotlight due to repeated drug smuggling operations into the facility, using secretly and manually manufactured drones. In a recent incident, prison officials, known for overseeing one of the most dangerous prisons in the country, noticed unusual noise from a drone flying freely inside the prison and stopping in front of a window. The drone was intercepted and searched, revealing 100 grams of hashish and three mobile phones with charging cables intended for a Moroccan inmate.

Spanish newspaper "Ok Diario" revealed that the smuggling operation is orchestrated by followers of a Moroccan drug lord who is incarcerated and has a lengthy criminal history serving over 14 years. Investigations indicated that these drones belong to a dangerous network specializing in supplying inmates with drugs and communication devices. Following this incident, the newspaper confirmed that Spanish security services launched a widespread arrest campaign targeting dozens of individuals linked to drug trafficking, most of whom are Moroccans with dual nationality. This led to the dismantling of a drone manufacturing network in secret labs located in the city of Melilla.

The investigation also resulted in raids on secret factories belonging to an international mafia involved in modifying drones and recreational boat engines for international drug smuggling between Morocco and Spain. Firearms and advanced satellite communication devices were also seized.

The same source stated that Spanish security reports indicated traffickers are investing large sums in drone technology to increase the success rates of drug smuggling operations into Europe, exploiting Spain as a primary entry point. Local Moroccan media reports also mentioned that authorities have installed advanced radar systems to detect drones flying at low altitudes in an effort to combat the rising drug smuggling across the borders.
