Former President Fouad Seniora stated that "the judicial ruling against the fighting journalist Dima Sadek indicates the collapse of objective standards within certain politicized and manipulated judiciary systems that use double standards." He added in a statement: "Despite the clarity of the press law, it seems that this law is being circumvented to reach this flawed ruling, which must be retracted as it infringes upon the Lebanese people's right to express their free opinions." He expressed regret and concern over "this dangerous trend of subordinating the Lebanese judiciary in a desperate attempt to alter Lebanon's long-standing traditions of respecting public freedoms, freedom of expression, and defending human rights. Instead, there is unfortunately a push towards transitioning to a system directed by security and intelligence agencies aimed at silencing voices and preventing the freedom to express opinions that seek reform and advancement." Seniora reaffirmed his participation "in the belief of the vast majority of Lebanese that such attempts will not succeed, and that the Lebanese are keen to uphold Lebanon as a homeland that will remain an oasis for the exercise of responsible public freedoms."
For his part, Melhem Riyashi, a member of the "Strong Republic" bloc, tweeted from his official Twitter account: "As a deputy for the entire Lebanese nation, I call for the immediate repeal of the prison sentence against Dima Sadek and for the case to be referred to the press court, and anything that is added regarding 'stirring up sectarian tensions' is, at the very least, a trivial matter!"
The association "Journalists for Freedom" also expressed, with regret and condemnation, their reception of the unjust ruling against journalist Dima Sadek, a ruling that was issued with judicial signatures and a politically revealed decision. They stated: "Beirut, the capital of freedoms, will reject this ruling, and will expose those complicit and shamelessly submissive to a revenge mentality that masquerades as justice." They continued: "We stand by journalist Sadek and present this ruling to international human rights bodies, as well as to all who care about Lebanon's image, and we warn against this downward path that tarnishes the image of some sitting on the scales of justice."
