"Progressive" and "Islamic Group": To Elect a President Who Does Not Challenge Anyone

A statement was issued today, Tuesday, following a meeting between the leadership of the "Progressive Socialist Party" and the "Islamic Group." The statement emphasized the importance of swiftly completing the presidential election through dialogue as the only available means, and the need to elect a president who does not challenge anyone and is capable of providing a clear vision to overcome the significant economic crisis.

The statement also mentioned the continuation of effective coordination at all levels to reflect more joint work in establishing a social and regional safety net and addressing any potential attempts at strife or issues that may arise amidst the current harsh conditions.

It stressed the utmost importance of protecting state sectors, administrations, and institutions in light of the impasse caused by some forces entrenched in their positions, which only serve to deepen the crisis and accelerate collapse.

Furthermore, the statement called for full attention to the educational sector, urging the government to ensure all requirements for the academic year are met and to hold it responsible for granting teachers their rights reasonably, as well as ensuring all needs of the Lebanese University are addressed.

It concluded by stating that regional and sectoral meetings at all levels would be agreed upon, and open communication would be maintained. Present at the meeting from the "Progressive" party were Secretary General Dhafer Nasser and several commissioners and sector and regional leaders. From the "Islamic Group," present were Political Bureau Chief Ali Abu Yassin and a number of bureau members as well as regional and sectoral officials.
