Civil Defense Mourns Medic Mohammad Jihad Bayadi

The General Directorate of Civil Defense mourned the volunteer medic Mohammad Jihad Bayadi from the Harat Hreek center, "who was martyred in service on August 1 while performing his duty to extinguish a fire inside a warehouse." It highlighted that "Mohammad Jihad Bayadi was born on June 16, 1990, in Bashoura. He volunteered with the General Directorate of Civil Defense since January 2, 2005. He received several commendations from the Director General of Civil Defense and completed numerous training courses locally. He participated in many missions, including search and rescue operations at the Beirut port, and was a model of a brave individual in service of the nation and its citizens."

The Directorate stated that "in terms of family status: he was married and had one child. His body will be prayed over at 4:00 PM on August 2 at the mosque in his hometown of Harouf - Nabatieh, where he will be buried in the town cemetery."

MP Pierre Bou Assi also tweeted, expressing his condolences: "I join the voice of the General Directorate of Civil Defense, which mourned the volunteer medic Mohammad Jihad Bayadi from the Harat Hreek center, who was martyred on August 1, 2023, while performing his duty. My deepest condolences to his family and the family of Civil Defense who risk their lives to protect the lives and property of citizens."

A massive fire broke out in a sponge warehouse inside one of the buildings behind the Saha restaurant on the airport road, before spreading to upper floors, leading to the martyrdom of Civil Defense member Mohammad Jihad Bayadi during the extinguishing operations, and injuring four others due to suffocation. Three members of the fire brigade from the southern suburbs were also suffocated.

Ambulances from the Red Cross and the Islamic Health Authority were present at the scene to assist the injured.
