On Friday, the Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ashraf Dabbour, briefed the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Frontera, on the latest developments in Ain al-Hilweh camp. He discussed the statement from the Palestinian Joint Action Committee condemning the "crime against the martyr General Abu Ashraf al-Aramoushi and his companions," the agreement on a ceasefire, the formation of an investigative committee, and the Palestinian consensus to bring the perpetrators of the crime before Lebanese judicial authorities. Dabbour also highlighted the efforts made by Palestinian leadership to communicate with Lebanese authorities to stabilize security and stability in the camp.
In another meeting, former MP Bahia Hariri, president of the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development, hosted the Director-General of UNRWA in Lebanon, Dorothy Klaus, along with the director of UNRWA in Sidon, Ibrahim Khattib, and the representative of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, Abdul Nasser al-Ayyi. They discussed the conditions in Ain al-Hilweh camp and the adjacent areas following recent security events and their humanitarian and living implications for thousands of Palestinian and Lebanese families, as well as coordinated efforts to aid those affected.
MP Abdel Rahman al-Bizri also met with Dorothy Klaus, Ibrahim Khattib, and Abdul Nasser al-Ayyi to discuss the living, social, and economic situations in Ain al-Hilweh and the surrounding areas affected by recent events. They addressed compensation mechanisms, damage assessment, and urgent assistance for the affected families. Al-Bizri emphasized the need for Palestinian and Lebanese authorities to take responsibility in this vital matter. At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue discussions with relevant authorities and organizations.
Additionally, a broad meeting was held at the Sidon Municipality to discuss coordination among local and international relief organizations aimed at assisting those affected by the clashes in Ain al-Hilweh and Sidon. Attendees included Dr. Dorothy Klaus, Abdul Nasser al-Ayyi, and representatives from local and international relief agencies focused on Palestinian refugees. This meeting aimed to assess the needs and impact of the clashes while facilitating relief efforts for the affected populations.
Finally, the Secretary-General of the Popular Nasserist Organization, MP Osama Saad, received Dorothy Klaus and others to discuss the situation of Palestinians in the camps, particularly in Ain al-Hilweh following recent events. The importance of maintaining security stability in the camp for UNRWA to fulfill its humanitarian and social functions was emphasized. They also discussed the impact of the recent events on both Palestinians and Lebanese, especially concerning moral, material, and economic damages.
