The Kataeb Party: The Security Chaos in the Camps is Due to the Presence of Militias Controlling the Country

The Lebanese Kataeb Party stated in a press release after a meeting presided over by the party's president, MP Sami Gemayel, that "on the anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, three years after the crime, the truth remains obscured, and the judiciary is paralyzed, while the accused and those responsible for the deaths of hundreds and the injury of thousands, displacing hundreds of thousands, remain free, protected by a deadly system hiding behind its immunity." The party emphasized the "necessity of conducting an international investigation that serves justice for the victims, free from local pressures that obstruct the search for truth and prevent accountability," noting that "this case is a right that does not die and that it will leave no effort spared in seeking justice and punishment for those involved, in honor of the victims and in memory of the comrades who perished on that painful day: Secretary-General Nizar Najarian, Joe Akiki, Joe Andon, Tony Burmaki, and Randa Rizkallah."

The party called on "comrades and supporters to participate in the march from the Beirut Fire Brigade to the port on Friday, August 4, at 4:30 PM," adding that "the security chaos in the Ain el-Hilweh camp is a natural result of the abnormal situation in Lebanon, with the presence of Lebanese and non-Lebanese armed militias on its territory." They pointed out that "Hezbollah, after paralyzing the state and preventing it from exercising its authority and gradually evacuating decision-making centers, has become the ultimate authority on the Lebanese scene, exploiting the reality it has established to turn the camps into a battleground for militia conflicts within the resistance agendas in the region."

Furthermore, they continued, "what is required today is not just to contain the clashes but to address the issue fundamentally, which requires a political decision from the Lebanese state to prevent the presence of weapons in the Palestinian camps. It is known that the positions of the Palestinian Authority are clear regarding the need for the Lebanese state to extend its sovereignty over the Palestinian camps to ensure security and peace."

They reiterated that "the blatant negligence dominating the management of state affairs is rejected in all forms." The state is left in a vacuum, the country is heading towards collapse, and the Lebanese are burdened by the weight of crises while some have decided to take a vacation from responsibility until September, a move that can only be described as irresponsible and tantamount to yielding to the will of disruption and monopolization of the country."

The party added, "Keeping the republic without a president in these dangerous circumstances is equivalent to slaughtering the state and the law, holding Hezbollah and its allies responsible for the destruction of what remains of institutions. All the turmoil and the piecemeal, makeshift, and unlawful solutions in security and the economy are a result of preventing the election of a president aimed at monopolizing decisions and controlling the country."

The political bureau of the Kataeb noted that "after the central bank governor left in a shameful celebratory spectacle, carrying the largest file of looting the money of the Lebanese people in history, after he and his mafia partners contributed to the collapse of the national currency and the evaporating deposits unlawfully, it seems that the new political approach will be based on legally stealing them." They continued, "We reject any step aimed at lending a bankrupt state and legalizing the theft of depositors' funds, a plan sought by the system to evade any future accountability," affirming that "temporary solutions will prolong the crisis, and the only solution lies in comprehensive plans that are clear and require a decisive decision to implement them."

In conclusion, on the occasion of Army Day, the Kataeb Party affirmed the significant role played by this institution, which still stands firm despite the dire circumstances the country faces, and it has not neglected its duties in protecting Lebanon and the Lebanese people while maintaining national unity in a time of institutional discord.
