# The Beirut Port Explosion: Do Not Turn the Page

Three years have passed since the "devastated Beirut" experienced an explosion that is incomprehensible to humanity, yet words like "justice," "accountability," "judiciary," and "truth" remain mere memories on the walls that have collected their fragments, failing to turn a dark page, leaving the image of that horrific day gray and bleak. Thus, Lebanese politicians recalled the port explosion, with politics having no effective hand in reaching the truth and obtaining justice for a child, a young person, an elderly individual, and many others who were frozen in time, crowned only in black and white.

**Rai**

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai, during the mass on the eve of the anniversary, stated that "no one can hide the truth because it is light, and the truth they are trying to conceal involves the identity of the person responsible for the explosion and the storage of ammonium nitrate." He added, "Politicians pretend to be innocent; if you are innocent, why are you evading and obstructing the investigation? The truth is buried as if it is dead, yet it cries out to the consciences of all those responsible for the catastrophe of August 4." He asked, "How can we remain silent about this catastrophe while those directly or indirectly involved evade justice under political cover? We must not forget what happened at the time of the explosion; there were those who heard and saw, and there were statements made at that time that were later removed from media circulation." He urged countries to provide Lebanon with what information they have, including investigations and images captured by their satellites, and to put an end to political interference in the investigations.

**Gemayel**

For his part, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea tweeted a succinct phrase summarizing the anniversary: "Justice for Beirut with all our strength."

**Hariri**

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri tweeted on "X," on the eve of the third anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, saying: "August 4… A black mark on the forehead of a phase in Lebanon’s history. Beirut's wound will not heal, and justice will come, no matter how long it takes."

**Frangieh**

Suleiman Frangieh, head of the Marada Movement, tweeted on his account via "X": "Three years since the catastrophe of the Beirut port explosion, and our demand remains one: complete and unaltered truth, far from politicization, in justice to the souls of the martyrs and their families and for Lebanon."

**Kataeb**

Sami Gemayel, head of the Lebanese Kataeb Party, expressed his sorrow over the country's vulnerability, saying: "The airport is not immune from another catastrophe as long as Hezbollah and its security and economic network control it. An international investigation followed by an international trial has become the only way to champion Beirut, the capital that does not die, and for the blood of the victims and the wounds of the injured, as well as the only means to hold the killers accountable."

**Bassil**

Jibran Bassil, head of the Free Patriotic Movement, wrote in a tweet: "For 20 months, the investigation into the explosion of the century at the Beirut port has been stalled. Uncovering the crime is an obligation, and delivering justice is a duty so that the responsible parties can be held accountable, the souls of the victims can find peace, the families can be consoled, the innocent can be exonerated, the judiciary can preserve its reputation, the state can protect the dignity of its people, and it can regain the trust of the people and the nations of the world."

**Tajaddod**

The "Tajaddod" bloc announced its continued support for the families of the victims, emphasizing the ongoing struggle to uncover the truth, achieve justice, and punish the accountable. They called for widespread participation in commemorating the anniversary alongside the families of the victims. Their statement said: "The fingerprints responsible for this crime will not be erased, no matter how much the judicial work is obstructed." In this context, the bloc called for not obscuring investigations into crimes suspected to be linked to the port explosion, such as the murder of retired Colonel in Customs Munir Abou Rjeili and photographer Joe Bejani, and stressed the importance of confronting the path of obstructing justice and encircling investigative judge Tarek Bitar, a course that caused the artificial events in Tayouneh, aimed at halting the judiciary's mission and burying the investigation.
