Egypt: Student Killed by Stray Bullet Not Involved in Family Feud

An unfortunate incident occurred in the village of Al-Hegairat in Qena province, southern Egypt, on Sunday, where a stray bullet killed a student who happened to pass by a fight between two families. A firearm dispute between these families led to a stray bullet striking the body of 16-year-old student Bassam M.S., who was on his way to a supermarket to get household supplies.

According to local media, Major General Mohamed Omran, Assistant Minister of Interior and Director of Qena Security, was notified by the Director of Criminal Investigations about the death of a student from a gunshot wound in Al-Hegairat village, Qena Center.

Immediately, a security force from Qena Police Station was dispatched to the scene, where they found the child Bassam M.S. had died from a gunshot related to the altercation between the two families. Initial investigations revealed that the confrontation started three days ago over a boundary dispute regarding farmland, and renewed arguments escalated yesterday, leading to gunfire between the family members, which ultimately resulted in the student being hit by a stray bullet.

An ambulance was sent to the scene, and the student's body was transported to the morgue of Qena University Hospital, pending the public prosecutor's investigation. A report was filed regarding the incident, and the relevant authorities were notified to begin the necessary legal procedures.
