AC Milan has announced measures aimed at allowing its players to better balance sports and motherhood by guaranteeing a new season for them if they are pregnant during the last year of their contracts. The club's general manager, Giorgio Furlani, stated in the announcement that "Milan intends to be a role model on both a national and international level." Through what it claims is the "first measure among elite clubs in Europe," Milan wants to "support its players and coaching staff in their development journey, not just professionally, by creating an environment that allows them to make significant life choices."
The new measure provides for automatic renewal of the contract for one year "under the same economic conditions" if pregnancy is announced during the last season of the contract, according to a statement issued by the Italian club. Additionally, the club will offer "childcare assistance" during sports activities, as well as financial support to cover additional expenses related to travel after the child's birth (airfare, accommodation), as well as expenses for companions. According to the provisions adopted by FIFA in 2021 and the club's own rules, players will continue to benefit from maternity leave and the right to return to the team after that leave.
