The Hebrew Channel 14 revealed on Saturday evening what it described as the "behind-the-scenes" details of the Israeli attack on Houthi targets in Yemen today, confirming that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "insisted on carrying out a substantial attack, rather than a relatively simple display of capability as seen with the Iranian attack."
It was reported that this occurred during a Cabinet meeting at an unusual time on Saturday, attended by Ministers Smotrich and Ben Gvir, due to the matter of oversight. The channel noted that "after discussions during the meeting, Netanyahu's line was accepted, and it was decided to strike the Houthi oil infrastructure."
Regarding the choice of target, the channel mentioned that the target was selected for several reasons, primarily that the Houthis have almost no sources of income except for oil production, making it more painful for them. The attack also served as a message to Iran that "your oil facilities, which are not further than the Houthi facilities, are next on the list to be bombed," in addition to the strong impact caused by the massive explosions in the refineries and other oil infrastructures.
According to the channel, "air force aircraft traveled about 4,000 kilometers (round trip), which is slightly more than the distance to Iran and back. The attack involved the aerial refueling squadron 120, which helped the attacking aircraft reach their destination and return safely."
