Spain's national coach Luis de la Fuente expressed his belief that his players are "the best in the world" after leading them to the Round of 16 in the Euro 2024 Championship, with one match remaining in the group stage. The Spanish team secured their qualification following a 1-0 victory over the defending champions Italy on Thursday night in the second round of Group B.
After the match, De la Fuente said: "I am happy and proud of this special group of players who continue to win and evolve." He added: "The players have a strong desire to grow; we have brought happiness not only to the team but to all of Spain."
He continued: "I will never tire, as I mentioned yesterday, of promoting Spanish football. I believe we are the best in the world in terms of interpreting different games, and of course, that is reinforced and strengthened when you win titles."
He further stated: "But it is important to emphasize the quality of this generation of players who have already joined this team. I believe Spanish players are the best in the world."
The coach of the Spanish national team concluded by saying: "As I said, there is no team better than us; I still hold this opinion, but we need to continue working hard and keep playing as we have so far."
