Kataeb Party: We Call for a State of Emergency in the South

The Kataeb political bureau stated that after the positive stance shown by the Kataeb Party aimed at facilitating the election of a president and the regular functioning of institutions, and following the detailed roadmap announced by the unified opposition to resolve the current deadlock, it has become clear that the failure to reach any solution is due to the self-appointed guardianship over the republic, which does not want a president who aligns with Lebanon amidst a multi-dimensional war being waged on behalf of Iran.

In a statement following a meeting chaired by MP Sami Gemayel, the political bureau indicated that "all internal initiatives and proposals brought by mediators have been and remain a waste of time while waiting for the end of the larger battle, and the Kataeb Party will no longer contribute to this."

On another note, it pointed out that "the uncontrolled escalation between Israel and Hezbollah brings Lebanon and the region closer to an explosion that could eliminate what remains of fragmented institutions and the ability to recover," calling for "the declaration of a state of emergency in the south, urging the government to awaken from the resignation it has resorted to, to regain the initiative and implement international decisions that call for deploying the army and arming it with a political decision to protect Lebanon, thus becoming the legitimate and sole deterrent against attacks from any party."

It asserted that "the political authority, by fully surrendering to Hezbollah's will, strips the state and the Lebanese people of the right to save their country, determine their fate, and seize the moment of international attention to Lebanon, risking its complete loss in the event of a comprehensive war that would divert international focus to Israel, which has been and continues to be the favored child of major powers."

The political bureau added that "the repeated assaults on Lebanese journalists and dissenting voices against the resistance narrative can no longer be tolerated," stating: "Silencing through violence and threats has never succeeded in quieting the voice of truth; every time a pen is silenced, multiplied voices emerge."

It affirmed its solidarity with "all journalists and media professionals in their struggle to preserve their message, first and foremost, and the image of Lebanon, secondly," urging the concerned authorities to "take the necessary measures to identify the known perpetrators and deter them."
