The Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, expressed his satisfaction with the results of the visit by the American envoy, noting that the situation today is better than yesterday. Berri considered the visit by Hochstein as a message from U.S. President Joe Biden, indicating that "he has not forgotten Lebanon." Although Berri did not disclose details of the meeting, which lasted more than an hour, his statements align with information indicating that Hochstein requested assistance during his meetings in Lebanon to avoid escalating tensions ahead of the upcoming meeting to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza.
In an interview with "Asharq Al-Awsat," Berri mentioned that efforts are currently underway to strongly pursue a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that there are very strong pressures to reach a ceasefire, which would have positive effects on the Lebanese scene. Berri reiterated the necessity of halting the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon for over 10 months, expressing serious concern over the escalating actions taken by Israeli political and military levels, through cross-border assassination policies, whether in the Iranian capital Tehran or in the Lebanese capital Beirut, in addition to the daily Israeli massacres committed against children and civilians in Gaza and Lebanon, the latest being the attack on worshippers at dawn in the Al-Tabe'een school in Gaza, according to "Asharq Al-Awsat."
