Sudanese sources reported that the fighting in Wad Madani has forced thousands to flee again to the states of Sennar and Gedaref. Earlier, eyewitnesses and a source from the Rapid Support Forces stated that the forces advanced into the heart of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazirah State in central Sudan, on Monday night, having crossed the Hantoub Bridge from the eastern bank of the Blue Nile to the west. The source reported that the Rapid Support Forces took control of the headquarters of the Al-Jazirah state government and the headquarters of the 1st Infantry Division and the Army Command in the state early Tuesday morning.
It was confirmed that the Rapid Support Forces fully secured the city of Wad Madani, establishing checkpoints at the city's entrances and spreading throughout the neighborhoods leading to the neighboring state of Sennar in the southeast of the country. The source mentioned that the army retreated to Sennar following fierce clashes last night that continued into the early hours of the morning, which was corroborated by witnesses who noted that intense fighting occurred between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in the southern and western neighborhoods of Wad Madani. No comments have yet been issued by the army regarding the takeover of its command center in the city.
