Interior and Municipalities Minister Bassam Molawi visited the Lebanese national football team participating in the Asian Cup finals held in the Qatari capital, Doha, where he was welcomed by General Secretary Jihad Al-Shahaf, members of the technical and administrative staff, and players. Minister Molawi noted that this visit is a duty, stating, "Football is connected to every Lebanese, therefore every official feels a connection to the team and its champion players who make tremendous efforts to raise Lebanon's name high in international arenas." He praised the work of the Lebanese Football Association, saying, "The Federation is making great efforts and work from the womb of suffering with minimal resources." He expressed the hope that all state administrations would emulate those in charge of football in Lebanon.
He continued, "Given my presence in Doha, it was essential to visit the team, greet the players, and encourage them because Lebanon is built by such quality youth." In response to a question about the return of fans to the stadiums in the near future, Molawi emphasized his commitment to the popular game, highlighting the importance of football and his ministry's constant readiness to ensure order and protect Lebanese citizens wherever they may be, stating, "We promise everyone to do what is necessary to please Lebanon and to satisfy them in raising the country’s name while maintaining security on its territory." Molawi made sure to get to know all members of the delegation and shake hands with them, while Al-Shahaf thanked the minister for his visit to the team, confirming that it represents a significant morale boost before the final match in the group stage, presenting him with a team jersey as a commemorative gift.
