The National Liberals Party held a mass for the repose of the former party president Danny Chamoun, his family, and the martyrs of the "Tigers of Liberation," under the title: "You Died as Tigers So That We May Live as Free People," at Our Lady's Church in Hadat.
After the mass, the attendees moved to the main hall, where the party president, MP Camille Chamoun, delivered a speech in which he stated that "the assassination of Danny was not just the assassination of a person but it was like an assassination of the nation, due to what Danny represented in terms of good relations with all the parties." He noted that Danny was, for him, "more than an uncle," saying: "He was an example of manliness and patriotism, and a figure of stances and struggles that we fought out of necessity in the absence of the state. Today, we see that our situation is similar to that of 1975, as the state is absent from decision-making in both war and peace, and this is a contrived matter to allow violations to prevail and for external forces to control our decision and our future."
He added: "We stand today at a crossroads, and it is crucial that the original Lebanese resistance remains united and in a state of readiness. We express human solidarity with civilian victims but we must avoid entering the war. Therefore, we reiterate our call to neutralize Lebanon from regional conflicts. The violations we are experiencing today in the south are concerning, and exiting the cycle of regional violence will only be through a two-state solution."
Chamoun emphasized "the rejection of the status quo imposed on Lebanon and the multifaceted collapse we have reached," saying: "No matter what happens, the Lebanese cause remains sacred after our party has presented more than 3,500 martyrs, as well as others from the Kataeb, the Forces, the Guardians of the Cedars, the Syriacs, and all honorable citizens. This cause, for us, is above all other causes, and we, as Free Patriotic Nationals, are committed to working to restore Lebanon to its golden age."
