Tension on the Southern Front... and Tinetti: UNIFIL Forces Continue Their Mission

Tensions have returned to the Lebanese-Israeli border after an Israeli drone fired two missiles around the town of Kfarshuba in the eastern sector of the south, which landed 60 meters from a joint patrol of the army and the Spanish battalion operating within the UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL), causing only material damage. Hezbollah announced that "its elements targeted an Israeli tank at the Avivim barracks with guided missiles at 12:45 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, resulting in casualties among its crew, both killed and wounded. They also targeted the locations of Hanita and Al-Bahri with guided missiles, destroying several of its technical and logistical equipment."

For his part, UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tinetti stated: "The exchange of fire continued along the Blue Line today." He added, "Contrary to some reports, no UNIFIL patrols were targeted or hit during these clashes, and UNIFIL peacekeepers continue their missions and activities, including patrols." Israeli reconnaissance aircraft flew over towns in the western sector as the night witnessed rounds of heavy shelling around several towns in the region, with the Israeli army dropping flares in the sky. The Israeli artillery shelled positions in Shebaa Farms, the Kfarshuba hills, Ramya, and Aita al-Shaab, and the Israeli army announced targeting a group that attempted to launch an anti-tank missile from Lebanese territory toward an Israeli position.

A correspondent from Al-Manar reported that the outskirts of the town of Blida were subjected to Israeli shelling. A cautious calm had prevailed in the morning on the border after a night of heavy Israeli shelling around Hula, Aita al-Shaab, Ramya, and the vicinity of the Hula School. The correspondent added: "Three missiles launched by Israeli drones in the morning - one missile landed near the road where a patrol of the Lebanese army and UNIFIL forces is stationed in Bastra farm, and it was not a direct targeting of the patrol - while two missiles landed in an open area in Rubaa al-Tibn, south of Kfarshuba."

It was reported today that Hezbollah targeted the Jal al-Alam site facing Nakoura for the second consecutive day. In response, Israeli artillery renewed shelling on the outskirts of Ramya with heavy air force activity. The party announced the death of four of its members in southern Lebanon, while clashes continue between its elements and the Israeli army along the Lebanese-Israeli border. In separate statements, the party announced the deaths of Ismail Hassan al-Mawla "Ali" from Harabta town in Baalbek, Adel Mahmoud Zaiter "Abu Ali" from Al-Qasr town in Baalbek, Haidar Jawad Al-Tarshishi "Ali" from Al-Naseriya town in Baalbek, and Jaafar Hashim Mflah "Mohammed Ali" from Al-Khayriya town in Baalbek.
