The Ukrainian Air Force announced via Telegram that it shot down all 30 drones launched by Russia last night over seven regions. The governor of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine reported that the air force shot down 14 drones over the region, stating that two fires caused by the attack were extinguished, and there were no reports of injuries. The governor of Khmelnytskyi noted that the military shot down four more drones over the region, but debris caused damage to storage facilities and a workshop in an industrial site.
Four drones were downed over the Cherkasy and Vinnytsia regions in central Ukraine, with local authorities reporting no material or human losses. Regional authorities in Kyiv mentioned that air defenses dealt with targets on Wednesday morning without providing details about the consequences of the attack. The governor of Sumy stated that a ballistic missile was shot down over the region last night.
In the morning update, the Air Force did not provide details about the missiles used by Russia to attack Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Interfax news agency quoted the Russian Health Ministry on Wednesday as saying that 24 people, including six children, were injured after shelling in the Kursk region, where Moscow accused Ukraine of launching a cross-border attack the day before.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Kyiv continued aerial attacks near the border on Wednesday, and Russian defense systems destroyed four drones last night. Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Ukraine continues its aerial assaults on the Russian border area of Kursk, and defense systems had destroyed four drones overnight, following Moscow's accusation that Kyiv targeted the area with a tank-supported attack.
The ministry sent reserve forces on Tuesday to help repel hundreds of Ukrainian fighters supported by tanks from Kursk in what appeared to be the largest ground incursion into Russian territory during the ongoing war that has lasted more than two years. Acting Governor of the southwestern region of Russia, Alexei Smirnov, stated on Telegram that the situation is "under control." He mentioned on Wednesday that all emergency services were on "high alert" and called for blood donations to replenish available supplies.
Smirnov's posts indicated that dozens of air raid alerts had sounded in the region over the past 24 hours. By Wednesday morning, there were no reports of new ground fighting breaking out. Russian officials noted that five people, including two paramedics, were killed, and at least 20 others, including six children, were injured in the fighting that erupted on Tuesday.
Ukraine has not yet provided an official comment despite evidence of some military operations on its part along the border. Both Kyiv and Moscow claim that their attacks do not target civilians. Ukraine regularly launches artillery shells and missiles into Russian territory, hitting targets deep within Russia with long-range attack drones, but the use of infantry soldiers in attacks is rare.
The Kursk region hosts the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, but Smirnov stated that the facility is operating without any problems. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defense systems also destroyed three drones launched by Ukraine over the Belgorod region and two over the Voronezh and Rostov regions. The regional governor noted via Telegram that the drones in the Voronezh region, located hundreds of kilometers south of Moscow, caused damage to several residential buildings and vehicles.
