Teams from the armies of Egypt, Poland, and Australia participated in a training program on the South Korean K9 Thunder howitzers, with Israeli media closely monitoring the event. The Israeli news site nziv reported a military statement from South Korea published by the Korea News Agency "Yonhap," indicating that the program aims to enhance operational understanding of these systems among participating nations. Participants received training on the operation and maintenance of the K9 Thunder artillery at the Korean Army's artillery school, with the program starting on July 9 and lasting for three weeks.
The Korean army also announced plans to launch a training program for the K2 Black Panther main battle tank next November, along with other plans for foreign troops on South Korean weapon systems. The K9 Thunder is a self-propelled howitzer with a caliber of 155 mm, initially developed by Samsung Techwin and currently manufactured by Hanwha Aerospace, and it is currently in operation with the armies of ten countries.
The Hebrew site noted that South Korea and Egypt signed an agreement to produce the K9 self-propelled howitzer in the Egyptian military industry, as previously announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production. Hanwha Defense introduced a special version of the 155 mm K9 howitzer at the EDEX 2021 exhibition, called "K9EGY," featuring desert camouflage.
