Serious Developments on the Border Area as Al-Qassam Rockets Launch from Lebanon

Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claimed responsibility for firing a barrage of rockets from southern Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee in Israel. Immediately, Israeli artillery responded with intense shelling of border areas and towns, causing significant material damage.

The situation in southern Lebanon remained highly escalated and confrontational on Sunday, as Israeli attacks targeted the hills of Halta and Kfarshouba in the eastern sector, and also affected the outskirts of the town of Yaron in the central sector.

According to reports from Al-Manar, there was intermittent Israeli shelling on the "Rabaab Al-Teebin" area in the hills of Halta and Kfarshouba. The Israeli army stated that it targeted military infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah inside Lebanon, firing more than 40 shells, most of them phosphorus, at the outskirts of the town of Mais Al-Jabal. The Israeli army also conducted direct artillery shelling around the towns of Marwahin, Al-Dhahira, and Al-Bustan on Sunday afternoon, as well as an airstrike on the outskirts of the town of Aita Shaab.

Additionally, Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of Ramya and Beit Lif, and drones attacked the Tel Al-Nahas area behind the Al-Bayek restaurant today. The Israeli army fired illumination shells in the "Al-Wastani" area around the town of Shebaa. Several citizens were injured due to a direct Israeli strike on their home in the town of Yaron.

On the other hand, Israeli media reported that six individuals sustained serious and critical injuries as a result of anti-tank missiles fired from Lebanon targeting a convoy of vehicles in the settlement of "Dovif." Later, the Israeli army stated that they "targeted the cell that fired the anti-tank missile at Israeli vehicles in Dovif."

The Israeli army reported that "armed individuals launched anti-tank missiles on Sunday near the Lebanese-Israeli border and injured several civilians," adding that it would retaliate with artillery fire. Hezbollah's military media announced that "in support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in solidarity with their noble and honorable resistance, Islamic Resistance fighters at 12:25 PM on Sunday, 11-12-2023, targeted a logistical unit of the occupation army that was in the process of installing transmission towers and espionage equipment in a newly established gathering near the Dovif barracks, causing confirmed casualties among them."

The "Islamic Resistance" also targeted the positioning of the Israeli army near the Al-Asi site opposite the town of Mais Al-Jabal at the Lebanese-Palestinian border.

In a separate note, Andrea Tenenti, the official spokesperson for UNIFIL, stated that "shortly after midnight, peacekeepers at a UNIFIL location near Al-Qouzah reported hearing gunfire nearby. One peacekeeper was shot and underwent surgery and is now recovering and in stable condition." Tenenti mentioned that the source of the gunfire is currently unknown and an investigation has been launched. He emphasized that "any targeting near UNIFIL positions and any use of our sites for attacks across the Blue Line, for any reason, is unacceptable." He reminded the parties of their obligations to protect peacekeepers and avoid endangering those working to restore stability and added, "Attacks against civilians or UN staff are violations of international law that may amount to war crimes."

Tenenti concluded by urging all parties involved to cease fire to ensure the safety of not only peacekeepers but all individuals living near the Blue Line.
