The United Nations announced today, Wednesday, that the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund has allocated $4 million to respond to the humanitarian needs of displaced citizens or those remaining in conflict areas. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that "as of November 21, 55,491 individuals (52% female) have been displaced from Southern Lebanon due to ongoing hostilities along the Blue Line. The Ministry of Health reported 85 people killed and 357 injured due to armed clashes along the border with Israel, including at least 13 confirmed civilian deaths."
It was noted that "the past week has seen a significant escalation in hostilities along the southern Lebanese border, marking the period of the most intense exchanges of fire since the onset of armed clashes." It announced that "to support humanitarian response, the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF) launched its first reserve allocation for 2023, which includes up to $4 million to support partners in pre-positioning and responding to the needs of displaced individuals or those remaining in conflict areas."
The office explained that "approximately 71% of internally displaced persons are currently living with host families, while 23% are renting homes. Another three percent have moved to secondary residences. Around 2% are in collective shelters, and reports indicate that another 1% are living in unfinished buildings."
