Alimi: Yemen is Among the Least Able Countries to Face the Effects of Climate Change

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, Rashad Alimi, announced today, Friday, that his country is among the least able in the world to confront the effects of climate change, which is causing increasing losses year after year. Alimi made these remarks during a working session at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28), which began in Dubai yesterday and will continue until December 12, according to the Yemeni government news agency.

Alimi warned of the growing risks of climate changes to developing and least developed countries amid the slowing global efforts to address its catastrophic consequences. He stated, "Despite the progress made, there is still much to be done to mitigate climate change, adapt to it, and lessen its impacts, as efforts to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius remain delayed. Furthermore, developing and least developed countries continue to pay the highest price for this slowdown in implementation."

He mentioned that Cyclone "Teigh" isolated entire cities from their surroundings and caused severe damage to essential services, while floods swept away vast agricultural areas.
