Mutual Shelling on the Lebanese Border... and 3 Martyrs in the South

The National News Agency in Lebanon reported that three people were killed in Israeli shelling in the south of the country on Friday, as the collapse of a truce between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) led to renewed fighting along the border. A woman and her son were martyred in the town of Houla after their home was targeted by Israeli shelling, identified as Nasifa Mzar'ani and her son Muhammad. Additionally, Israeli forces shelled the town of Dair Mimass. Nasifa Mzar'ani was a former prisoner and a previous injury victim who sustained burns during the July 2006 war. An Israeli drone also targeted the vicinity of the town of al-Jibeen, resulting in one martyr and three wounded. The Israeli army used phosphorus shells to bombard olive groves in the eastern neighborhood adjacent to the wall in the town of Kafr Kila, and Israeli artillery also targeted the "Albouna" area south of Naqoura and the "Hamul" area in its eastern outskirts.

The mayor of Houla, Shakib Qtaish, stated in remarks to Reuters that the Israeli shelling resulted in the deaths of a woman and her 35-year-old son in the town, adding that they were civilians. Hezbollah later declared that a "martyr" was killed in Houla. Qtaish reported via phone that a shell fell near the house before a second shell hit it.

In military news, Hezbollah's military media announced that "its fighters targeted the Merj site at 17:10 on Friday evening with appropriate weapons, resulting in confirmed casualties. They also targeted the positions of Israeli occupation soldiers around the Ramya site, achieving direct hits. Additionally, they targeted another gathering of soldiers around the Jal al-'Amal site."

Hezbollah also mourned the member Muhammad Hussein Mzar'ani "Abu Ali" from the southern town of Houla. Sirens sounded in several towns in northern Israel near the border with Lebanon on Friday, prompting residents to flee in search of shelter. The Israeli army did not provide any details regarding the reason for the sirens, which sounded hours after the ceasefire in Gaza ended.

On another front, Israeli forces opened fire from a radar position on Mount Sheikh overlooking the town of Shebaa at goat herders from the Zahrat family, but no injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon stated that shelling occurred near the force's headquarters close to the coastal town of Naqoura and in Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon in the afternoon.

Hezbollah leader MP Hassan Fadlallah stated, "At the Lebanese level, we must face this challenge and remain vigilant, always ready to confront any possibility or danger that may arise in our country." He added to journalists, "No one should think that Lebanon is immune to Zionist targeting and that developments in Gaza cannot affect the situation in Lebanon."
