Violent clashes broke out after midnight between Iranian-backed local groups and government forces on one side, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the other, following the latter’s attempt to infiltrate towards the town of Baqrus on the western bank of the Euphrates, within areas controlled by government forces and Iranian factions in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside. Both sides exchanged artillery fire. The town of Baqrus witnessed a movement of displacement among residents due to the clashes and mutual shelling. Additionally, farmlands in the city of Mayadin came under artillery fire from positions held by the SDF.
In this context, a civilian was injured by stray bullets in the stomach during intense gunfights between the SDF and Iranian-backed local groups, near the towns of Al-Shuhail and Al-Hawaij, and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Yesterday, military forces from the Republican Guard arrived in Deir ez-Zor countryside to prevent Iranian-aligned factions from attacking areas east of the Euphrates, according to an agreement with Russia.
The day before yesterday, Iranian-backed factions stationed on the western bank of the Euphrates targeted the Koniko gas plant, which houses American forces, with shells, leading to a state of alert and the activation of sirens, though no information about human casualties was reported. In response, US forces stationed at the base retaliated against the fire sources and the positions of local militants in Deir ez-Zor countryside, while two warplanes were seen flying over the area.
