The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel used several heavy bombs in its recent attempt to assassinate Hamas military wing leader Mohammed Deif during an air raid on the Al-Mawasi area in Gaza last Saturday. The newspaper quoted sources described as "well-informed," stating that Deif was hiding in a complex in southern Gaza, which Israel bombed with 8 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds each. The blast's force turned the target into a "burning crater," according to the report.
Hamas considered the Israeli attack on Khan Younis on Saturday as a sign of its disregard for a ceasefire, asserting that claims about targeting Deif were untrue. Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri stated that the report broadcast by the Israeli army radio, which mentioned that the raid on Khan Younis was aimed at the military wing leader Mohammed Deif, is "nonsense." He added, "All the victims are civilians, and what is happening is a dangerous escalation of the genocide war in light of U.S. support and global silence... this is a practical message from the occupation that it is not interested in any agreement."
Medical sources affiliated with Hamas reported that at least 71 people were killed in the Israeli attack on Khan Younis, and 289 others were injured. The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip condemned in a statement the "heinous massacre committed by the occupation against civilians and displaced persons."
