Algeria: Arrest of 10 Support Elements for Terrorist Groups

During the period from July 17 to 23, the Algerian Army conducted several security operations, leading to the arrest of 10 individuals supporting terrorism and thwarting the smuggling of more than 8 quintals of drugs from Morocco. According to the operational report from the Ministry of National Defense in Algeria, various units of the People’s National Army managed to "arrest 10 support elements for terrorist groups during separate operations across the national territory." Additionally, a highway robber named L. Atto was apprehended with an SVD sniper rifle, a magazine of ammunition, and 74 live rounds.

Joint army detachments, in coordination with various security services during operations across military zones, arrested 24 drug traffickers. They also thwarted attempts to smuggle 8 quintals and 22 kilograms of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco, and seized 1.134 kilograms of cocaine and 27,257 psychotropic tablets.

Furthermore, detachments of the People’s National Army in Ilizi, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and Ain Salah arrested 61 individuals and seized 8 vehicles, 71 electric generators, 37 jackhammers, and quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, explosives, and equipment used for illegal gold mining operations. Additionally, four other individuals were arrested, and a firearm, 8 hunting rifles, 17 rounds, and 259 cartridges were confiscated, along with 43,502 liters of fuel and 10.6 tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling during various operations across the country.

Coast guards also managed to thwart illegal migration attempts involving 189 individuals aboard traditional boats, while 268 illegal migrants of different nationalities were arrested.
