The Palestinian presidency welcomed the decision issued by the International Court of Justice regarding "the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land since 1967." In a statement, it considered the court's decision a victory for justice, affirming that the Israeli occupation is illegal and that Israel must end its occupation and eliminate its presence in the Palestinian territories, cease any settlement activities immediately, evacuate settlers, and compensate for the material and moral losses of individuals in the occupied Palestinian territories.
It called on the international community to "oblige Israel, as the occupying power, to end its occupation and colonial project completely and without condition." The statement emphasized that "this decision confirmed the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and their right to their land and state, rejecting the occupation, the recent Israeli Knesset decision, and U.S. policies that support Israel in its occupation and refuse the establishment of a Palestinian state. It renews hope among the Palestinian people for a future free from colonialism on the path to attaining their absolute and non-negotiable right to self-determination and liberation."
The statement reiterated the necessity of ending the policy of impunity that has allowed Israel to deny the Palestinian people's right to self-determination for more than 76 years, deepening apartheid and oppression policies, and committing acts of genocide that are now unfolding before the eyes of the world in Gaza and throughout the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian president's special envoy stated that the International Court of Justice confirmed the Palestinians' right to liberation from colonialism, saying: "All countries must fulfill their duties to not recognize the illegitimate existence of Israel." This comes after the court's request to Israel to "end its presence in the occupied Palestinian territories as soon as possible."
