Tunisian actress Hind Sabri revealed her stance for the first time regarding her resignation from her position as a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme affiliated with the United Nations. This decision was made in solidarity with the people of Gaza, following the ongoing war waged against them by Israeli forces for more than four consecutive months. In a special interview with "ET بالعربي," Sabri explained that her decision stemmed from a feeling that there are differing standards of humanity that do not apply to the people of Gaza, including children, women, and the elderly.
She stated, "I felt a rift in the world, and I still feel the same sensation." In response to a question about her disappearance from media outlets and social media after the war began, Sabri said, "We all, as Arabs, felt the same things, and in a press statement, I said I would not exploit this issue. I have great respect for the organization I represented, and my respect for the people in the field and their efforts has not changed, because there are people working in the field and risking their lives who deserve respect."
She continued, "They always told me there was a United Nations, and I would say, imagine a world without the United Nations; we have truly reached that world." It’s worth noting that Hind Sabri served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme for a full 13 years. She submitted her resignation in November 2023, following a month of the Gaza war, as a manifestation of her anger over what is happening in the sector, without any real intervention to help stop the ongoing bombardment of civilians by the occupying forces.
In a lengthy statement, Hind Sabri expressed that she made this decision due to her feeling of helplessness in being unable to effect any kind of change.
