The head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," Deputy Gebran Bassil, mentioned that "wherever we go in the world, we return to Lebanon, and whenever I come back here, I feel joy and find the affection and authenticity of Lebanon." He considered that "the concept of family in the world is targeted, and all the unnatural movements aim to undermine the family," wishing that one of their missions would be to address the issues of humanity and family.
During a speech he delivered at the Orthodox House in Minyara, Akkar, he emphasized that "today we are threatened because of Israel, and we all ask the same question about the possibility of war," confirming that "we are against any policy that leads to war." He added, "It is true that we are working to prevent war in Lebanon, but that does not mean surrender. Whether war occurs or not, Lebanon will emerge victorious, even at a high cost."
Bassil viewed "war as a failure of humanity, and the outcome of war will be a victory for Lebanon," noting that "the fear is of other wars aimed at changing identity and so on, which is not an issue of racism or hostility." He focused on the fact that "the Syrian displaced persons did not enter Lebanon since 2011 if not for Lebanese partners who contributed to their entry, while in contrast our people are immigrating and others are responsible," explaining that "we do not want to incite any hostility with the Syrian displaced, but only to implement the laws."
He stated that "we should not mix our identity with the nature of our peaceful relationship with the Syrian people," affirming that "the issue of displacement is a national concern, and the Movement has never erred on national issues."
