Sources close to the matter revealed that the recent arrest of a group of Dutch soldiers in a street in the suburb, while openly carrying their weapons, was nothing more than a storm in a teacup. The Lebanese security forces immediately took charge of the case and conducted all necessary investigations without any negligence or leniency, to settle any confusion or prevent a potential security breach that the enemy could exploit in the future.
Regarding the details uncovered by the investigations, the sources disclosed to Al-Diyar that the group was indeed conducting reconnaissance of the homes of two Lebanese nationals working at the embassy who reside in the suburb. The team visited the location while visibly armed, and the investigations did not reveal any intent to carry out a security operation, as well as the team's movements during their stay in Beirut.
The sources confirmed that the security measures implemented in the suburb and its internal streets, following the events that took place in the area since 2014, make it impossible to carry out any military-style operations within it. This is due to the deployment of a network of surveillance cameras and personnel from security committees monitoring closely any unusual entries into the area, which placed this group under observation since their arrival.
The sources concluded by asserting that it is naive to think that a professional military group would engage in such activities while fully armed and with personnel that clearly do not appear Lebanese, warning that there are parties seeking to instill a climate of fear in order to close off certain areas as part of a suspicious plan.
