After the return of the Israeli negotiating delegation from the Egyptian capital with little progress regarding negotiations for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas, Israeli media revealed details of a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and heads of security agencies to discuss the stalled deal. According to Channel 12, Defense Minister Yoav Galant addressed Netanyahu during the meeting, stating: "There will be no ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza on the conditions you've proposed, and you know that." Galant also informed Netanyahu that there is no security reason preventing the continuation of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Additionally, the Israeli channel reported that the Chief of Staff told Netanyahu that it would be wise to continue negotiations in Gaza. Sources informed Channel 12 that Netanyahu's positions would not lead to real progress concerning an agreement with Hamas. For his part, an Israeli official stated that Netanyahu believes that the assassination of Haniya would hasten the completion of a Gaza deal by increasing pressure on Hamas.
Regarding the call between U.S. President Joe Biden and Netanyahu on Thursday, Channel 12 reported that "Biden accused Netanyahu of lying during their call a few days ago regarding the Gaza deal." Meanwhile, The New York Times noted that Netanyahu rejected Biden's claim that the assassination of Haniya would hinder reaching a ceasefire in Gaza. The American newspaper also indicated that Netanyahu denied, during his sharp call with Biden, that Tel Aviv was an obstacle to the Gaza agreement.
