The Ukrainian army indicated on Monday that "Russian forces are launching their heaviest attacks near the strategic city of Pokrovsk in the eastern part of the country, threatening a key route used by Kyiv to supply troops attempting to fend off Russian forces." The Ukrainian General Staff, in a regular report on the war's developments, stated that the fighting on the "Pokrovsk" front was the fiercest anywhere else in the war-torn east. They added that Ukraine repelled 52 Russian attacks in the area over the past 24 hours, according to Reuters. Pokrovsk, which was home to 61,000 residents before the war, is located on a vital main road for transporting supplies to Ukrainian-controlled sites such as the towns of Chasiv Yar and Kostiantynivka. The General Staff's statement noted, "The enemy's attack focus is on Hryan and Novolykasndrivka," referring to two towns located east of Pokrovsk. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that Russian forces had captured the town of Vultchi in Donetsk and improved the tactical situation along the front. The Russian Defense Ministry's statement said: "The active operations of the Central Group of Forces have liberated the town of Vultchi in the Donetsk People’s Republic, and the units have improved the tactical situation along the front, repelling eight counter-attacks by Ukrainian forces."
