Israeli forces arrested the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, after surrounding his home in the Suwana neighborhood of Jerusalem, following his mourning of the head of Hamas’s political bureau, Ismail Haniya, during Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa. According to the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth," Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel informed the legal adviser to the government of his intention to revoke the imam's residency. "Maariv" revealed that Israeli police have launched an investigation against Imam Ikrima Sabri on suspicion of incitement following his mourning of Ismail Haniya.
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for an investigation into the imam. He stated, "After the serious incitement speech by Sheikh Ikrima Sabri in the Noble Sanctuary, the police approached the attorney general to consider opening an investigation against him on suspicion of incitement." He added, "I hope that the attorney general, who is trying to open an investigation against me on charges of incitement against the residents of Gaza, will act with the same resolve against a sheikh who incites to kill Jews in the Noble Sanctuary."
