The Egyptian and Moroccan teams secured at least one "historic" Olympic medal for the Arabs in the football competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics currently held in France. Morocco qualified for the semi-finals for the first time in its history after a decisive victory over the American team, winning four goals to none. Meanwhile, the Egyptian team reached the same stage for the first time in 60 years after defeating the Paraguayan team in a penalty shootout.
Both the "Atlas Lions" and the "Pharaohs" have the chance to award the Arabs with two medals, a gold and a silver, or at least one medal, with the worst-case scenario being a bronze if they lose in the semi-finals, as they will face each other in the third-place match for the bronze medal.
Three Arab teams participated in the football event at the Paris 2024 Olympics: Egypt, Morocco, and Iraq, the latter of which was eliminated in the group stage. It is noteworthy that the Egyptian team will face the host team, France, next Monday at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon. Meanwhile, Morocco will take on the Spanish team on the same day at the Vélodrome Stadium in Marseille.
