Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announced from Pakistan today, Monday, that "the United Nations Security Council has proven its failure to fulfill its responsibilities regarding the efforts to stop the war in the Gaza Strip." In a press conference after meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, Raisi pointed out that "there are significant potentials and capabilities between Iran and Pakistan that can be exchanged, and we have decided in our meetings to elevate the relations between the two countries."
He added, "The Pakistani people always stand by the Palestinian people and take to the streets raising their voice for the liberation of Palestine." For his part, Sharif stated, "We and Iran express our concern over the genocide in Gaza and we condemn this genocide in one voice," noting that "Muslim countries must raise their collective voice until the war comes to an end." He emphasized that "this visit represents a historic turning point in the relations between Pakistan and Iran."
The Iranian president arrived in Pakistan today at the head of a high-level delegation of economic and political officials. Raisi and his accompanying delegation were welcomed by the Federal Minister for Housing in the Pakistani government, Riaz Hussain Peerzada, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, along with a group of senior political and military officials.
During this two-day visit, Raisi will hold a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, and he is scheduled to meet with scholars, elites, business people, and Pakistani economic activists. Additionally, after his visit to Pakistan, Raisi will travel to Sri Lanka in response to an official invitation from his counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe, for a one-day visit, where he will join the President of Sri Lanka at the inauguration and official commencement of the "Omafia Multi-Purpose Project," which includes dams and a 120-megawatt power station built by Iranian contractors.
