Koeman Calls Up Injured De Jong to Netherlands Squad for European Championship

Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has called up Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, to be part of the final squad for Euro 2024. De Jong is expected to resume training on Saturday, while there are doubts about the fitness of Atlético Madrid forward Memphis Depay, who Koeman relies on heavily in the attack.

Koeman has maintained his confidence in defenders Nathan Aké (Manchester City) and Daley Blind (Girona). However, Martin de Roon of Atalanta is absent from the Dutch squad after sustaining an injury in his team's loss to Juventus in the domestic cup final, despite having been part of the initial 30-player list. The top scorer in the Dutch league this season with PSV, Luuk de Jong, is also missing after announcing his retirement from international duty in March 2023. Koeman also opted not to call up Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Nick Olij and Feyenoord midfielder Kèvin Timmer.

The Netherlands, which won the European Championship in 1988, has been placed in a tough group for the upcoming continental tournament, facing France, Austria, and Poland. The Dutch team will prepare for the finals by facing Canada on June 6 and Iceland on June 10.

Here is the Netherlands squad for the European Championship scheduled to take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14:
