In light of its commitment to Lebanon and the re-establishment of institutional operations, the Progressive Socialist Party and the Democratic Gathering bloc, led by MP Taymour Jumblatt, are resuming political engagement with parliamentary blocs. Today, they hold meetings with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and the head of the Strong Lebanon bloc, MP Gibran Bassil. This initiative will continue in the coming days with various political forces, while former Minister Ghazi Al-Areedhi has met with Hezbollah leadership as part of this movement.
This tour aims to discuss ways to get the presidential post out of the stalemate it has faced for one year and nine months, attempting to break the current deadlock and persuade the parties to engage in acceptable forms of dialogue or consultation. Meanwhile, Qatar is hosting visits from Lebanese parliamentary delegations, including political advisor to President Nabih Berri, MP Ali Hassan Khalil, and another parliamentary delegation from the Strong Republic bloc.
Political sources linked the activity of the Progressive Socialist Party to serious security developments on all fronts, as noted by the electronic newspaper "Al-Anbaa." Concurrently, MP Bilal Al-Hosheimi commented on the Socialist initiative, hoping to break the existing deadlock in preparation for the election of a president. He is convinced that the key to the solution lies externally, in the hands of Iran. "The question is whether Iran really wants to elect a president?" he expressed skepticism about Iranian intentions, suggesting that the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Beirut "aims to confirm that Lebanon is under Iranian control and that the stability of Lebanon and the region rests with Iran." He also stated that "nothing will change today or in two months, as the focus will be on the American elections, not the Lebanese ones."
