Spanish newspaper "AS" reported that Barcelona's management has threatened their Uruguayan player Ronald Araujo with being put up for sale if he does not make a decision regarding the extension of his contract. Araujo's contract (25 years old) with Barcelona expires in the summer of 2026 and has not yet been renewed. The Catalan team is looking to renew his contract as soon as possible to secure his continuation and fortify their defense, considering the interest from several clubs, especially Bayern Munich.
Reports indicate that Barcelona's management wants to extend Araujo's contract, but his representatives are delaying the resolution of this matter. "AS" explained that Barcelona is concerned about Araujo's future, as the club believes that the player's agent is stalling negotiations for renewal not to reach a better agreement, but because he already has offers from other clubs that he is considering. Meanwhile, the player himself has asked his representatives to move forward with contract extension talks.
Araujo spoke about his future in statements relayed by the Spanish network "Mundo Deportivo," saying: "I am feeling very good, I am calm. I have a contract until 2026." He added: "My representatives will meet with the club, but right now I am focused on the national team."
"AS" noted that the contract renewal discussions for Ronald Araujo will stretch throughout the summer, which will not please the Catalan club's officials. Barcelona confirmed that it would not allow Araujo's representatives to manipulate the management, so if they do not agree to the club's terms, Barcelona will agree to Araujo's departure for no less than 80 million euros.
It is worth mentioning that Ronald Araujo participated in 37 matches with "La Blaugrana" during the past season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
