Bahraini Interior Minister: Bahraini Citizenship for Those Who Show Loyalty and Pride

Bahraini Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, stated that Bahraini citizenship is for those who demonstrate loyalty and pride in acquiring it, adhere to and respect the applicable laws, maintain the security of Bahrain and its social fabric, and contribute to the development and construction process, as well as for those the state needs based on their specialties and skills. This statement came during a meeting he held today, Sunday, with the Committee for Reviewing Cases of Acquiring Bahraini Citizenship to follow up on its work.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Bahraini minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the nationality, passports, and residency affairs for their efforts that led to discovering individuals who acquired Bahraini citizenship in violation of the law. Sheikh Rashid clarified that the establishment of the Review Committee was prompted by evidence of cases where individuals provided incorrect or forged information or documents to acquire citizenship, misused their citizenship, or harmed the interests and community security of the kingdom, as well as those who violated the conditions for the continuity of citizenship.

In response to some questions raised by the media and social media in recent days, including the time frame for the committee's work, he said, "We began evaluating and reviewing cases since 2010, as part of the review we conduct on citizenship acquisition in general." Regarding the revocation of government privileges granted to those who acquired Bahraini citizenship, he clarified that they will be dealt with according to the laws governing this matter, affirming that Bahraini citizenship is for those who show loyalty and pride in obtaining it and respect the laws in place while maintaining the security of Bahrain and its social fabric and contributing to development and construction, as well as for those whom the state needs based on their skills and specialties.
