Prime Minister Najib Mikati received the British Foreign and Defense Ministers, David Lammy and John Healey, this afternoon at the Grand Serail. The meeting was attended by British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell and his accompanying delegation, as well as the Lebanese Ambassador to the UK, Rami Mortada, and advisors including former Minister Nicolas Nahas, Ambassador Boutros Assaker, and Ziad Mikati.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Britain for its continuous support for Lebanon on all fronts. He noted that "the dispatch of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Foreign and Defense Ministers to Lebanon during these circumstances is a message of support that Lebanon appreciates." He indicated that he discussed the situation in Lebanon and the region with his British counterpart last Saturday in France.
The Prime Minister emphasized that "Israel has violated Lebanese sovereignty and aggressed upon our land in violation of international laws and attacks civilians daily in an outrageous manner." He stated that "the solution will only be political through the implementation of international resolutions, including Resolution 1701," calling on Britain and the international community to "pressure Israel to stop its aggression."
British Foreign Minister David Lammy urged "all parties to respect and implement United Nations Resolution 1701 in all its provisions and details," while Defense Minister John Healey praised the "existing partnership between the Lebanese and British armies." He called for addressing all disputes through dialogue and diplomatic means, as violence would have dire consequences for everyone.
