Najma Crowned Lebanese Football Champion for the Ninth Time

Qassem Zein's header, which secured the victory for Al-Najma against Al-Ansar in the 95th minute, granted the "Nabiadhi" team its ninth title in the Lebanese football league. This marked their first win over Al-Ansar with a score of 2-1 (first half 1-0) after three losses against them in the 63rd season of the Lebanese League. Al-Najma triumphed this evening at the Fouad Chehab Sports Complex in Jounieh, behind closed doors, noting that a draw would have been sufficient for Al-Ansar to strengthen its record with a fifteenth title.

Al-Najma fans gathered at the team’s home ground in Al-Manara, watching the match on a giant screen, while Al-Ansar supporters followed the game from the Beirut Municipal Stadium in the Tariq al-Jdideh area. Al-Najma returned to the championship podium after a ten-year absence.

Khalil Badr opened the scoring for Al-Najma in the 29th minute with a bicycle kick, sending the ball from inside the area to the far right corner of the net, out of reach of goalkeeper Nazih As'ad. Senegalese striker Haj Malik Tal equalized for Al-Ansar in the 52nd minute with a header he directed into the net from close range, near the right corner of goalkeeper Ali Sabaa's goal. At the end of the match, Haj Malik received the inaugural Adnan Al-Sharqi Award for the league’s top scorer after netting 20 goals. Meanwhile, the president of the Lebanese Football Federation, Engineer Hashim Haidar, presented the championship trophy to the winning team, in the presence of the historic president of Al-Najma, "The Cedar of Lebanese Football," Omar Abdul Qader Ghandoor (94 years old).
