The German newspaper "Bild," citing sources, reported that Israel may launch a military operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in the second half of July. According to the newspaper, Western diplomats indicated that the military operation in southern Lebanon could begin "in the third or fourth week of July."
Additionally, the Israeli newspaper "Ma'ariv" published a new report in which reserve IDF Major Yaron Buzkila discussed the implications of the decision to carry out an Israeli attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
In the report, Buzkila states that the main question today is whether it is wise to move towards Lebanon now or to postpone such a military campaign for a few more years. He added, "Acting now means we are already at war, and we have the legitimacy to move and attack, and citizens have already been evacuated."
He continued: "If we don't do it now, it is uncertain if we will have legitimacy in the future. Today, we have very significant offensive capabilities, but our vulnerability lies in the capacity to handle such a war."
He remarked, "If we postpone the operation to the future, while we might be able to return citizens home through some agreement, the enemy is also improving and developing more precise attack systems. We always react instead of taking the initiative, and what is postponed today may not be implemented in the future."
Buzkila further stated, "The correct approach is to seize the opportunity and launch an attack against Lebanon now. Hezbollah is today weaker than it will be in the future. It has already been harmed, and we are at war."
However, he emphasized that "the war in Gaza must first be concluded," adding, "Finishing in Gaza means at least occupying Rafah and breaking the Hamas brigade there. After that, we can move forces to Lebanon and significantly attack Hezbollah."
Buzkila sees the importance of consolidating security achievements in the coming year, stating, "What we do this year will shape the coming years. The more achievements we accomplish now, the more we will reap the benefits in the future."
