Khazali: To Commemorate the 1920 Revolution in a Manner Reflecting Its Sacrifices

The Secretary-General of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haqq movement, Sheikh Qais Khazali, emphasized the need to commemorate the 1920 Revolution in a way that reflects its significant sacrifices. In a statement, Sheikh Khazali said, "Amid our celebrations of the events of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, and between the Glorious Eid al-Ghadir and the notable Day of Mubahala, we remember a dear occasion to our hearts that brings pride: the 104th anniversary of the eternal 1920 Revolution against the oppressive British occupation, which was launched under the leadership of the noble religious authorities and authentic tribal leaders from the central Euphrates cities, extending to the cities of the middle and south. This witnessed a national participation led by the Shiites of Iraq, with the involvement of the Kurds and Sunnis from the free sons of Iraq, who united under the banner of the religious authority and responded to its blessed call while confronting the ferocity of the British colonizer and inflicting upon it severe defeats despite the disparity in equipment and numbers."

He added, "We extend our warmest congratulations and highest blessings to our grand references, our esteemed scholars, our mujahideen, and to all our dear people." He affirmed "the necessity of reviving this memory in a manner befitting its great role and immense sacrifices in establishing and building a modern independent Iraqi state that rejects all plans of arrogance and resists the ominous presence on the land of our pure homeland."

Sheikh Khazali reiterated "our steadfast position on the necessity of expelling all foreign forces whose presence is illegal and illegitimate, which constitutes a blatant violation of the Iraqi constitution and an affront to national sovereignty." He renewed the pledge "to the sacrifices of the noble martyrs whose blood has watered the earth since the establishment of this blessed revolution to this day, to continue on their victorious path, and to adhere to their eternal Hussaini approach until achieving all the goals for which they sacrificed, and to build a dignified and capable state that guarantees the rights of the Iraqi people, preserves their dignity, and realizes their aspirations for a prosperous life, creating a virtuous society that prides itself on its national and cultural Iraqi identity."
