The American debate that took place last week did not provoke any clear reactions in the Middle East, despite the fact that it is the region most concerned with U.S. policies. Everyone seems to have chosen to wait and observe, which may well describe that noisy American night. Over the past eight years, the world, especially the Arab region, has experienced two strikingly contrasting American presidents, an occurrence not typical in U.S. politics. Even during the transition from Jimmy Carter, a very simple and humble president, to the dynamic and courageous Ronald Reagan, one of the most important presidents in American history, there was no such disparity in ideas and policies.
The differences regarding "Trump and Biden" are immense, resulting in a deep and clear division not only in the United States but also worldwide, especially since they represent entirely different political models. The big question circulating in the corridors of media and politics is: Who is the better American president for the region and the world, "Donald Trump or Joe Biden"?
Let us consider today’s political map of the world and anticipate how the upcoming administrations might engage with it. The Ukraine-Russia war is on the verge of turning into a third world war, which has been ongoing for three years and is not expected to be resolved soon. Rising tensions between China and its neighbors "Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan" are part of a new Cold War aimed at distracting the Chinese, slowing their economy, and pushing them into reckless adventures. The war in Gaza could potentially ignite the region in a moment if its repercussions are not contained.
There is also a war in the straits of the southern Red Sea, which is a manufactured conflict but offers insight into what the architects of the political map of the world want for the coming decades. Additionally, there is a blazing conflict among brothers in Sudan, which could lead to a possible war in southern Lebanon.
All these troubled and inflamed "pockets" did not arise from a vacuum; there are those who have set the stage for their emergence to exploit the resulting consequences, amidst a weakening global economy suffering from continuous hemorrhage and liquidity drought, coupled with rising living costs worldwide affecting people's lives—a crisis that has emerged and is not expected to cease soon.
The world has come to face two completely opposing choices: either Biden or Trump. We should remember that the world has always been between the "American and Russian" option, and today it is faced with a single option, "American versus American." This is a fate that must be dealt with, as we cannot ignore the United States, a fundamental engine of this world, with its armies, economy, currency, and influence. Therefore, American elections will never be merely an internal American affair, as their effects and repercussions will impact the future of the world.
Despite the unclear American scene, there are always benefits. One of these is that the severe clash between the extreme American left and the other extreme right has the potential to temper their behaviors, which have cast shadows over humanity. The deviating left, which has dominated the arts, media, and politics aiming to influence the minds and future of humanity, has clashed with the rightist opposition to pornography, deviation, and attempts to change human nature.
This clash will guide the agendas of the left, or at least temper their momentum; it will certainly not eliminate it, but it will limit their tyranny and domination, which is in the interest of humanity. Furthermore, the extreme right-wing chauvinism needed to rein in its behavior and hostility towards others.
Today, the world, especially the Middle East—the most fragile region—urgently requires an American leadership—whether Republican or Democratic—that is conscious, rational, and balanced, with the desire to de-escalate tensions and quench conflicts, to provide humanity with a breathing space to recover after the waves of revolutions and wars that have changed the face of the world in just a decade and a half.
