Indian police announced on Thursday that a massive explosion caused a fire at a pharmaceutical factory in southern India, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 workers and injuring 40 others. Local police reported that 40 people were injured in the explosion and fire at the chemical reactor of the factory in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, with some in critical condition and transferred to the hospital.

The Indian Press Trust agency showed distressing scenes where the skin of several workers was peeled off. They were transported to the hospital by ambulances. Officials suspect that "the cause is related to electricity at the factory" and authorities ordered an investigation.
The explosion occurred at the Essentia company in the Anakapalli area, about 350 kilometers northeast of Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
