The bandage of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who survived an assassination attempt, stole the spotlight at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Some attendees donned fake bandages on their ears in a symbolic gesture of solidarity with Donald Trump. The former president arrived at the convention wearing a large white bandage on his right ear after it was shot during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Arizona delegate Susan Elsworth remarked, "We are helping President Trump launch a new cry in the world of fashion... and we stand in solidarity with what has happened to him... We just want him to know how much we love him."
Arizona delegate Joe Neely stated that the bandage represents "the latest fashion trend," adding, "Soon, everyone in the world will wear this bandage." Neely explained how the bandage was made by folding a piece of paper, saying, "I wore it to honor Trump."
Trump revealed on the final day of the four-day Republican National Convention in Milwaukee detailed accounts of the assassination attempt, stating, "The killer's bullet was a quarter of an inch away," indicating that he lost a part of his ear. He described how blood covered the area at the moment he was shot in the ear after he moved his head to dodge a fatal bullet.
The convention took place just two days after Trump survived the assassination attempt at an election rally in Pennsylvania. The former president survived the attempt on Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania after shots were fired from approximately 150 meters away toward the area where he was speaking. One rally participant was killed, and two others were seriously injured, while Trump was injured in the ear.
In a radio interview, former White House physician Ronny Jackson stated that he assessed and treated the president’s ear injury and found that the bullet had taken a part of the upper part of his ear. The FBI confirmed on Sunday that the assailant who targeted Trump was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old. Crooks was on the roof of a warehouse 130 to 140 meters away from Trump when he fired multiple shots at the former president before being shot and killed by Secret Service agents.
