Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, announced that "the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains catastrophic, and there is no safe place in the territory." He stated during a UN Security Council session today on "the situation in the Middle East, including the issue of Palestine," that "more than 50,000 bombs have been dropped on the Gaza Strip, destroying housing and civil infrastructure," noting that "Israeli authorities continue to obstruct humanitarian supplies to the area." The Russian envoy expressed his country's concern "over the ongoing smear campaign against UNRWA, which has no alternative," urging "Israel to comply with international humanitarian law and take responsibility." He warned that "there is a threat of the conflict expanding into Lebanon and Syria," explaining that "the Security Council's resolutions regarding the conflict remain ink on paper."
Chinese Ambassador to the Security Council, Zhang Jun, highlighted that "the conflict has been ongoing in Gaza for over 9 months, causing an unprecedented and worsening humanitarian catastrophe," questioning "how many more deaths and how much destruction must occur before the tragedy in the Gaza Strip stops." He stated, "Red lines of international law and international humanitarian law have repeatedly been crossed in Gaza," calling on "Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza," and demanding "Washington to exert pressure to achieve this." The Chinese envoy regarded "settlement activities as a violation of international law that undermines the two-state solution." He added, "UNRWA operates under a UN mandate, and China opposes attacks aimed at undermining it."
Algerian Ambassador to the Security Council, Ammar Ben Jame, reported that "the lack of water services in shelters creates a fertile environment for the spread of epidemics in the area," saying, "The dreams of children in Gaza have been shattered due to the brutal force of the Israeli occupation." He pointed out that "we face challenges in delivering and distributing food in Gaza due to Israeli policy," noting that "the disaster taking place in Gaza challenges our core humanity. No more days should pass where starvation is used as a weapon against civilians in Gaza." The Algerian diplomat stated, "We call for this meeting to emphasize the need to coordinate our response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza."
