The parody by transgender artists of Da Vinci's painting during the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympics has sparked widespread outrage and calls for a boycott of the Olympics, deemed a horrific insult to religious beliefs. A group of transgender artists presented a lengthy video performance depicting the characters from the "Last Supper," painted by Leonardo Da Vinci in the mid-15th century.
The scene involved one of the transgender performers portraying Jesus Christ, who danced, jumped, crawled, and made sexual gestures unrelated to religion, art, music, or even the Olympic Games, which have historically represented the advancement and civilization of humanity. European Parliament member Marion Maréchal addressed all Christians worldwide via her account on "X," stating in both French and English: "To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation."
Catholic Bishop Robert Barron criticized this act, saying, "The scene mocked Jesus," and noted that a large part of France's culture and its commitment to democracy stems from Catholic values of past centuries. He added, "Interestingly, this deeply secular and postmodern society knows who its enemy is – us Christians – and we should not be shy; we must resist and make our voices heard." Author Matt Walsh remarked, "The Olympics start with a satanic mockery of the Christian faith."
American football star Christian Harrison Butker shared a clip of the act on his Instagram, stating, "This is madness," and added, "Mocking the Last Supper is evil." This scandal also angered followers from Greece, who take pride in having established the concept of the Olympics since ancient times, with one Greek follower commenting, "The decadence of Europe." Another wrote, "When the spirit and idea of the Olympics die." Moreover, the absurd insult extended to the gods of Greek mythology, with one follower stating that the portrayal of the Greek god "Dionysus" reveals the absurdity of violence among humans.
The 33rd Summer Olympic Games officially opened yesterday evening with a grand ceremony held on the Seine River in Paris.
