Qatar: How Can Negotiations Proceed When One Side Kills Its Negotiators?

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani warned today, Wednesday, that the "assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh could disrupt negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the movement in Gaza." He stated via the social media platform X: "The approach of political assassinations and the deliberate escalation against civilians in Gaza at every stage of the negotiations raises the question of how negotiations can take place when one side is killing those who negotiate with them simultaneously." He added: "Regional and international peace needs serious partners and a global stance against escalation and the disregard for the lives of the people in the region." The Qatari Prime Minister plays a mediating role in the negotiations.
