"With a Missile Directed at His Body": Details of Hania's Assassination in Tehran

The head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Hania, was killed today, Wednesday, in Tehran. New details are emerging regarding the manner of his assassination, as Hamas-affiliated media reported that Iranian sources stated, "Hania's assassination was carried out with a missile directed straight at his body."

According to a statement from the Revolutionary Guard, Hania was killed along with one of his personal guards, a fact confirmed by the Iranian news agency, which stated that "Hania died along with one of his guards following an attack on his residence in Tehran." The Iranian news agency added that "Hania's assassination occurred around 2 a.m. Tehran time," noting that he was staying in a special residence for veterans in the Iranian capital. Media close to Tehran reported that the missile that killed Hania was launched from outside Iran.

A day before his announced death, the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, received Hania and the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, Ziad al-Nakhla, who had arrived in Tehran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the elected Iranian president, Masoud Bazakshiyan.

During the meeting, the head of Hamas's political bureau presented the latest field and political developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, stating: "Yesterday was the 300th day of the Gaza war, and we have now reached a sensitive and historical stage, where the Palestinian people and resistance forces must affirm their bravery and victory."

The new Iranian president also met with Hania, stating that "the resistance of the Palestinian people is a source of pride and honor and will ultimately lead to final victory." He added that "the goal of liberating Palestine has been a concern for the Iranian people both before and after the victory of the Islamic revolution."
